O LORD, THE GREAT AND dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that
love Him, and to them that keep His commandments. We have sinned, and have
committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing
from your precepts and from your judgments: Neither have we hearkened unto Your
servants the prophets, which spoke in Your name to our kings, our leaders, and
our fathers, and to all the people of America.
O Lord, righteousness belongs unto You, but unto us confusion of faces, as at
this day; to all the inhabitants of America, because of our trespass that we
have trespassed against You.
O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our leaders, and to
our fathers, because we have sinned against You. To the Lord our God belong
mercies and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him; Neither have we
obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before
us by His servants the prophets. Yes, all America have transgressed Your law,
even by departing, that we no longer obey Your voice; therefore Your wrath is
poured upon us because we have sinned against You. And You have confirmed Your
words, which You spoke against us, and against our judges that judge us, by bringing upon us
a great evil: for under the whole heaven has not been done as has been done upon
America. As it is written in Your word, all this evil is come upon us:
yet made we not our prayer before You, our God, that we might turn from our
iniquities, and understand Your truth. Therefore You have watched upon the
evil, and brought it upon us: for You, our God, is righteous in all Your works
which You do: for we obeyed not Your voice. And now, O Lord our God, that has
raised up America to bless the world with your Gospel, and has brought to you
renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.
O Lord, according to all your righteousness, I beseech You, let Your anger and
your fury be turned away from America, because of our sins, and for the
iniquities of our fathers, America has become a reproach to all
that are about us. Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of your people
and and cause your face to shine upon America that is
declining and has turned her back against You. O my God, incline Your ear, and
hear; open Your eyes, and behold our troubles: for we do not present our
supplications before You for our righteousness, but for Your great mercies.
O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do.
We ask these things in the name of your blessed Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Amen!
